Les Vins
Et les fruits de mer

The superb deep reds, delicate rosés and subtle white wines of the Pays d'Agde are a delight just waiting to be discovered.
This region's volcanic geology and climate are ideal for viticulture, wines having been produced here since the Greeks arrived from Marseille 2500 years ago (later the Romans created large estates and exported huge quantities of wine to Rome, where it was rated much better than local Italian vintages).
Further pleasant surprises await the visitor, as the region also produces some of the finest seafood in France. Explore the Route des Vignerons et des Pécheurs - the wine and seafood route - by following the directions.
You'll find yourself in a picturesque world of ancient manor houses with original buildings and stables, tucked away among shady groves of centuries-old cypress trees.
Visit the vineyards and cooperatives, meet the winegrowers and sample their wines. Tour the Etang de Thau and meet the breeders who produce some of France's most prized shellfish (the oysters and mussels at Marseillan and Bouzigues are rich in protein, famed for their robust sea flavour, and eaten all year round).
And go to Le Grau D'Agde for the local fishermens' daily catch, including the fabled sea perch, lotte & whiting, brought fresh to market by a fleet of small fishing boats.
